Asanko Gold Ghana Launches Community Agricultural Support Project
Asanko Gold Ghana Limited has launched a new Community Agricultural Support Project aimed at boosting farming activities across its host communities.
The initiative, introduced in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, is designed to improve crop yields, enhance farmers’ technical skills, and promote climate-smart farming practices
The project targets farmers in the Amansie South and Amansie West Districts, where illegal mining continues to lure many away from their farms in search of quick financial gains.
Dr. Isaac Kwakye, Sustainability Manager at Asanko Gold Mines, said the project is part of the company’s commitment to improving farmers’ welfare and promoting sustainable agriculture. He noted that farmers will receive technical training and vital inputs to support environmentally friendly farming practices.
The project targets farmers
Officials from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture believe the initiative will help prevent the decline in farming activities and discourage the shift from agriculture to illegal mining.
Millicent Aluah Ackah, the Amansie South District Director of Agriculture, expressed worry over the increasing number of farmers abandoning their farms. She encouraged farmers to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the adoption of good agricultural practices.
Describing the intervention as a “game-changer,” Amansie South District Crop Officer Benjamin Benim urged farmers to seize the opportunity to improve their productivity.
Beneficiary farmers have welcomed the project, expressing hope that it will reignite interest in farming and ultimately improve their livelihoods.
