Stanbic Bank Champions Women in STEM, Grooming Ghana’s Next Generation of Female Innovators

Stanbic Bank Donates 50 Laptops to KNUST to Boost Digital Equity, Empower Women in STEM

  One of Ghana’s financial giants, Stanbic Bank Ghana, has donated 50 brand new laptops to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST, with a pledge to improve digital equity in Ghana. With this donation, the bank aims to bridge the gender gap in the digital education space, as 40 of the laptops will be given to brilliant but needy female students pursuing STEM programs. The donation supports KNUST’s “Support One Student With One Laptop” (SONSOL) initiative, introduced by Vice Chancellor Professor Rita Akosua Dickson. Since the inception of the SONSOL project, Stanbic Bank has donated 400 high-end laptops, directly supporting students in advancing their academic pursuits.   Renowned gospel musician Augustina Addison has officially launched her 40th anniversary in music ministry at a media event held at the Pentecost International Worship Center, PIWC, Asokwa. Seaweed Invasion Cripples Fishing in Three Nzema East Coastal Communities

  Fishing activities in three coastal communities in the Nzema East District have been severely disrupted as an unusual invasion of seaweed continues to choke Ghana’s western coastline. Communities including Agyan, Akonu Domunli, and Axim are now bearing the brunt of the problem, with fishermen returning from sea with nets filled almost entirely with seaweed instead of fish. The overwhelming presence of the weed has made fishing nearly impossible, leaving many fishermen frustrated and struggling to sustain their livelihoods. “We go to sea but only bring back seaweed. It’s making life unbearable for us,” one fisherman lamented. Beyond affecting their catch, residents say the foul odor from the decomposing seaweed is now a daily health hazard. The strong, unpleasant smell is said to be causing respiratory discomfort and other health issues among community members. Frank Yeboah, has praised renowned road contractor Mr. Kofi Gyebi Job and his wife, Dr. Esther Okyere Gyebi, for renovating storm-damaged classroom blocks at Atwima Koforidua. The philanthropic couple, through the Kofi Job Foundation, moved to renovate a three-classroom block that was left in a dilapidated state after a heavy storm ripped off the roof.
