Deputy Defence Minister Tours Accra Recruitment Centres After El-Wak Tragedy : Leads Armed Forces in Prayer Day

The Deputy Minister of Defence, Hon. Ernest Brogya Genfi, has toured key military recruitment centres in the Greater Accra Region to ensure that new safety and transparency measures are being strictly enforced.

His visit comes in the wake of the tragic stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium on 12 November 2025, which claimed six lives and left several others injured.

Following a temporary suspension of the recruitment exercise, the Ghana Armed Forces reopened four major centres on 20 November El-Wak Stadium, Nicholson Stadium, the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) in Teshie, and the Air Force Base at Burma Camp.

The Deputy Minister moved from centre to centre, inspecting crowd-control arrangements, emergency response setups, and the revised entry procedures introduced to prevent any repeat of the unfortunate incident.

Hon. Genfi emphasised that the safety of applicants remains the Ministry’s top priority and assured the public that lessons from the El-Wak tragedy have guided all the improved protocols now in place.

His tour coincided with the Armed Forces Prayer Day, where he joined military leadership, officers, and recruits to pray for the victims of the stampede, the families affected, and the continued peace and stability of the nation.

Authorities say the recruitment exercise will continue under strict supervision, with security teams and medical officers on standby at all centres.
