ACEP and SolarTaxi Ghana Partner to Boost Green Skills for Women
The Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) and SolarTaxi Ghana have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch the Green Energy Technology Capacity Development Program (GET-CADEP).
This initiative, which starts next year aims to equip young Ghanaian women with practical green skills for the future of work.
The GET-CADEP addresses the growing need for green skills in cleaner, technology-driven energy systems, promoting competitiveness, inclusion, and sustainable development.
Mr. Kodzo Yaotse, the Policy Lead on Oil and Conventional Energy, emphasised that the initiative will bridge the gap between policy and industry, expanding access to green jobs and empowering women in Ghana's renewable energy sector noting that a just and inclusive energy transition requires equipping the next generation with the right skills. "We believe putting gender equity at the heart of labour development is keen in promoting the green energy sector".
On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of Solar Taxi Ghana Mr George Appiah, mentioned they were ready to train women in the green energy value chain.
He expressed worry over how men have dominated the green energy sector adding that they will make deliberate efforts to ensure women can get equal access and earn jobs in the sector. Thus, the partnership seeks to open doors to green jobs and shape the future of renewable energy in Ghana.
