Ministry Of Land And Natural Resources Pledges to Safeguard Wildlife Protected Areas, Wildlife with Enhanced Legislation

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources (MLNR) has emphasized its commitment to safeguarding protected areas and wildlife in the country with enhanced laws.

As part of efforts, the Ministry has engaged stakeholders on a draft Legislative Instrument designed to operationalize the Wildlife Resources Management Act, 2023 (Act 1115).

Held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, the consultative workshop brought together individuals from academia,  state and private institutions who discussed the draft Legislative Instrument.

Technical Director of Forestry at the Ministry, Joseph Osiakwan, underscored the Ministry's commitment to ensuring laws guiding their operations are well-positioned and implemented.

He noted that the Wildlife Act, passed in 2023, consolidated all wildlife laws and made provision for a higher sanction regime that is punitive for wildlife offences.

"We took into consideration emerging trends in global resources management discussions," he said.

Mr Osiakwan emphasized that the Ministry will continue to ensure a comprehensive Legislative  instrument is developed for the sector.

He revealed stakeholders from five regions, including Bono, Western, Ashanti, Western North, and Bono East Regions, participated in the workshop.

He commended participants for their contributions, adding that their suggestions will help the Ministry come up with a more comprehensive instrument.
