A/R: Cocoa Buyers Abandon Workplaces, Homes Over Unpaid Debts, Farmers Suffer


 Cocoa buyers in the Ashanti Region are being forced to abandon their workplaces and homes due to unpaid debts owed to farmers. 


The buyers, who spoke to the Minority in Parliament during a visit to the Foase area in the Asante Akyem North District, say pressure from farmers has become unbearable.


"We hear in the news that government has released funds for cocoa, but we have not seen or received any of them. So, our simple question is, where is the money?" a cocoa buyer asked, expressing frustration with the government's handling of the sector.



Farmers in the area are also feeling the pinch, with many unable to get payment for cocoa beans delivered.


 "All efforts to get payment have proven futile," they said, urging the government to take action. The situation has disrupted their livelihoods, making times difficult for them.


Addressing the farmers, Minority Chief Whip Frank Annor Dompreh slammed the government's cocoa price cut as "insensitive". 


"The government had every opportunity to cushion the farmers, but failed to help them," he said, warning that the price cut will severely impact farmers' livelihoods.


The Minority's visit aimed to highlight the government's neglect and push for better prices. 


Hon Dompreh emphasized that the price cut will have far-reaching consequences for farmers, who are already struggling.

Kumasi Technical Institute Receives Completed First Phase of PTA Renovation Project

  The Parent Teacher Association of the Kumasi Technical Institute has officially handed over the first phase of a major renovation project to school authorities in the Kumasi Metropolis. Phase One of the project includes the painting and expansion of the school’s dining hall, the painting of the administration block, science block, and boys’ dormitory, as well as the provision of new dining hall tables and benches. A/R: Concerned Small-Scale Miners Allege Harassment and Extortion by Police,Calls for Probe

  Members of the National Concerned Small Scale Miners at Manso-Watreso and other communities in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region are alleging harassment and extortion by police officers from Bekwai under the Ashanti South Regional Police Command. The miners in a statement on Monday alleged that officers from the command regularly visit sites belonging to members of the National Concerned Small Scale Miners Association to carry out operations and, in the process, allegedly collect money from miners without justification.  Some affected miners claim the officers often remove the number plates of the vehicles they use during these operations, making it difficult to properly identify them or authenticate the operations.
