Cocoa Price Cut: 'Show Us Your Cocoa Farm If You're Part of Us' - Farmers Challenge Mahama
Cocoa farmers in the Ashanti Region are skeptical of President John Dramani Mahama's claim of being a cocoa farmer, given the government's recent price cut.
They've called on him to show videos of his farm as proof, questioning his personal stake in the industry.
The farmers made this demand when the Minority Caucus in Parliament visited them on Monday, March 16, 2026.
In the Bosomefreho District, they expressed doubts about the president's experience with the challenges they're facing.
"Mr President, show us your farm, show us your cocoa beans as evidence if indeed you are a farmer," they said.
The farmers believe the president isn't feeling the impact of the price cut personally, which is why he's unaffected by their struggles.
"We have reasons to believe you are not a cocoa farmer and so you're not feeling any of the heat coming with the price cut," they added.
Addressing the farmers, Minority Chief Whip Frank Annor Dompreh assured them the Minority won't rest until the government reverses the price cut.
"We find it difficult to remain in Parliament when our very constituents are suffering," he said.
Hon Dompreh emphasized the Minority's commitment to fighting for the farmers' interests.
"As your representatives, we have to fight for your interest, that's why you see us here engaging you in your farms," he added.
The Minority will compile the farmers' concerns and present them to authorities for solutions.
Hon Dompreh stressed the need for pragmatic action to address the challenges facing cocoa farmers.
