Why Cut Cocoa prices when NPP Maintained it During Covid-19 crisis - - Minority Questions Govt
The Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annor-Dompreh, has criticized the NDC government's decision to reduce cocoa prices, saying they have no excuse to do so, especially when the NPP administration paid workers during the Covid-19 lockdown.
"Under the NPP's administration, workers stayed home yet received salaries, so if you reduce cocoa prices over COCOBOD debts, then you have not been fair to the farmers," Annor-Dompreh said.
He made the remarks while addressing cocoa farmers at Kunsu in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
The engagement was part of the Minority's efforts to understand the situation on the ground regarding the current crisis in the cocoa sector.
The Member of Parliament for Ahafo South West, Hon Elvis Dapaa, also expressed concern about the impact of the price reduction on farmers in his constituency.
"Cocoa farmers have been flocking my house for financial support due to government's failure to pay them," he said, adding that the reduction has affected farmers hugely.
Hon Dapaa stated that the Minority in Parliament will fight the government until the price is restored, showing solidarity with cocoa farmers struggling to cope with the effects of the price cut.
