Traders in Kumasi Raise Concerns Over Placement of KMA Dustbins

Some traders within the Kumasi Central Business District have raised concerns about how newly distributed dustbins by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly have been positioned.

The concerns follow the recent distribution of about 30 dustbins by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly aimed at reducing improper waste disposal and improving sanitation in the city on April 13 , 2026

Speaking to OTEC News reporters Maame Akua Asarebea and Solomon Nimo, the traders emphasized that, although the initiative is commendable, the placement of some of the bins is creating challenges for their daily activities.

They explained that a number of the dustbins have been positioned in some part of roads, while others have been placed directly in front of their shops occupying spaces where they usually conduct business and situation is affecting the flow of both human and vehicular traffic, and in some cases, disrupting their sales.

Despite these concerns, they are therefore calling on authorities to reconsider the positioning of the bins to ensure they serve their intended purpose without negatively impacting trading activities and also urged fellow traders and the general public to make good use of the dustbins and avoid indiscriminate dumping of waste, as efforts continue to improve sanitation across Kumasi.
