Lands Minstry Launches Competitive Bidding to Secure Future of Damang Mine

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources announces that the Damang Mining Lease, held by Abosso Goldfields Limited (a subsidiary of Goldfields Limited), will expire on 18th April 2026 after a one‑year extension.

To ensure the mine’s continuity, the Government has initiated a competitive bidding process to secure a credible investor and operator for the mine.

The Government believes the Damang Mine is a key national asset that significantly contributes to Ghana’s gold production, export earnings, and employment.

In a press release signed by the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Emmanuel Arma Kofi Buah, on Tuesday, measures are being taken to safeguard jobs, maintain service contracts, and reassure stakeholders during this transition.

"The bidding process aims to ensure the mine’s continued contribution to national development and advance long‑term Ghanaian‑centered ownership and investment". The release said.

The Government remains committed to transparency, responsible stewardship, and delivering lasting value for host communities and the nation.

The Ministry looks forward to ushering in a new chapter for the mine that strengthens Ghana’s mining sector and supports sustainable, Ghanaian‑driven growth, while preserving the country’s reputation for responsible foreign investment.
